News from the Ontario Music Educators Association (OMEA)

OGEHR at OMEA Con Fuoco

For a second year, OGEHR has participated virtually at the annual Ontario Music Educators Association (OMEA) conference as an affiliate.  In addition to providing general information about our organization,  and how the playing of handbells and chimes can fit beautifully into the Ontario Arts Curriculum for any grade level  in this time of limited performance opportunities, the page also featured a video, some images, and our newer document aimed at helping schools start handbell programs in their schools.  Education Committee member Debbie McMackin also offered two Raffle Draw opportunities to have an in-person information session for the winning teacher (and other interested staff members).  This year’s winners were Betty L.D. from Tecumseh, ON in the Greater Essex County District School Board, and Tania C. from Thornhill in the York Region District School Board.  This is only one of the ways our Education Committee is reaching out to School Boards across the Province to bring greater awareness to our ringing world and the opportunities it could provide within school settings.
